The Echigo Uonuma region is famous for its heavy snowfall. Bokushi Suzuki (1770-1842) published "Hokuetsu Seppu (1837)" in order to convey the deep snow life to the warm area. The book was a bestseller in the Edo period, still a favorite of many today. It was written about the folklore, customs, and industry of the snow country of Echigo.
The museum is a large-scale, snow-controlled wooden building made of Echigo cedar, built in the “Segai-zukuri" style unique to snow country, and visitors can relax and enjoy the beauty of the wooden structure and the warmth of the wood.
