YAKUYU ICHIHARA's Speciality Hot Spring: History of Herbal Medicine Baths and "YAKUYIN-YU"

The history of herbal medicine bathing is long and has been passed down to the present day for the purpose of medicinal effects and fragrance.
There are records of ancient Egyptians bathing with conifer extracts and essential oils, and ancient Greeks using medicinal plants for a sitz bath.
In Japan, the baths were held in public bathhouses during the Edo period (1603-1867), beginning with the orchid baths (baths in Fujibakama) that originated in China and continuing with the first bath of the New Year, the iris bath of the Boys' Day, the peach bath of the first day of summer, and the yuzu bath of the Winter Solstice.
